John Masserini


John Masserini is a native of New Mexico.  He is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Clarinet Performance at Michigan State University where he studies with Dr. Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr.  He holds a Master of Music from M.S.U and a Bachelor of Music from the University of New Mexico.  John currently performs with the Greater Lansing Symphony and has performed clarinet and bass clarinet with the Mid-Michigan Opera Company, the M.S.U. Symphony, the U.N.M Symphony, the New Southwest Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Americas.  Past teachers include Keith Lemmons, Kjell-Inge Stevensson, Alexander Ivanov, and Luis Rossi.  He has performed in master classes for Larry Combs, Stanley Hasty, Todd Palmer, Eric Mandat, Michael Galvan and Joan Tower.  He has worked with artists Kathleen Battle, Marilyn Horne, Frederica von Stade, Gian Carlo Menotti and Gil Shaham.  He holds the position of clarinet instructor at Lansing Community College and teaches clarinet and saxophone privately. John most recently completed a tour of the Southwest with "Trio Sonor" and spent a week in Boston studying with recording artist Richard Stoltzman and master teacher Kalmen Opperman.
