On Saturday, November 6, 2004 the Meridian Community Band presented its
11th annual tribute to American bandmaster John Philip Sousa. The date of the concert marked the 150th anniversary of the great composer/conductor's birth in 1854.
The band rehearses with soprano vocal soloist Siān Margaret Davies
minutes before the doors are opened. Ms. Davies sang two period pieces
("So anch'io la virtu magica" from Don Pasquale and "I've Made My Plans for the Summer")
that were enthusiasticaly received by the audience.

following the concert. The concert was performed the beautiful new Holt
Senior High School. Mr. Thornburg performed Herbert L. Clarke's Bride of the Waves.
Virginia L. White (center) acted as this evening's encore card lady. Sousa used
his famous marches as encores for programmed pieces. Since they were not listed in
the concert program, an encore card was displayed listing the title of the march.
