Bruce Nieuwenhuis, conductor

The Genesee Wind Symphony was formed in 1981 by then University of Michigan-Flint band director Dr. A. Raymond Roth who conducted it until he retired after 1989. Since then the band has been conducted by Gary Owens, Joe Dobbos, and Mike Gillan. Dr. Roth now lives in Mackinaw City, MI where he is involved in several local musical activities.

Since it began, the Genesee Wind Symphony has included band directors, music teachers, and other excellent musicians from the area. It plays a wide variety of music, including well known classical numbers, marches, modern band works, patriotic numbers, and seasonal music. Our season runs from October through April.

The conductor, Bruce Nieuwenhuis, is a retired band director from Swartz Creek High School. His other conducting experiences include eleven musicals with the Clio Cast and Crew, two years conducting the University of Michigan-Flint summer band, one year conducting the Flint Concert Band, three years as conductor of Christmas At Whiting, and he is currently the conductor of the Genesee Wind Symphony.
