Birmingham Concert Band
Grant Hoemke, conductor
Birmingham, Michigan
Twenty years ago several Birmingham area residents got together to explore the idea of starting up a Birmingham area band. The group included local business owners, a newspaper editor, and a musician. The need for "our own" musical group became obvious when the only music available at the Birmingham Centennial parade was provided by a bagpipe group from Canada. From this meeting of civic-minded residents came the beginnings of the current Birmingham Concert Band.
Over the past twenty years, the Birmingham Concert Band has provided musical enjoyment to thousands of music lovers through its many concerts. In addition, hundreds of local musicians have been given a chance to continue their musical involvement after leaving school right in their own community.
Birmingham young people have benefited because of the BCBs scholarship program. Over 70 music scholarships at a cost exceeding $20,000 have sent young musicians to Interlochen and Blue Lake Music Camps.
We are proud to be able to fill this important musical presence in our community. We appreciate the support of many music lovers, whose talents and gifts make possible the continued and growing success of the BCB. We hope you will especially enjoy our performances during this special anniversary season.
