Greenville, Michigan was settled 150 years ago by immigrants from
Denmark. Descendants of those settlers still make up a large portion
of Greenville's population. In 1964, the community began a tradition of
holding an annual festival to honor Greenville's Danish heritage. In
1972, a community band was organized and has become one of the features
of the annual Danish Festival, performing numerous concerts and leading
the Grand Dansk Parade.
The cities of Greenville and Skaelskor, the Maringades, Denmark became
sister cities in 1992 and Greenville is proud to have hosted the
community band of Skaelskor for the 1992 Danish Festival. In 1995,
members of the Greenville Danish Festival Band travelled to Denmark to
help the Marinegades commemorate its 25th anniversary by performing
in the Jubilaeumsstaevne.
1997 is the Danish Festival Band's 25th anniversary.
