Manchester Community Brass Band
Manchester, Michigan

The Manchester Community Brass Band was started in 1988 when our Community Resource Center collected a list of people interested in starting a band. With people working together, a local newspaper ad, and a band room made available by Manchester Community Education, it happened. With no budget and no sponsor, outdated printed music was bought at $1.00 per pound and a bass drum was found taking up too much room at a pawn shop.

The Manchester Community Band became a brass band when the saxophonist moved away and another trumpet joined. It is still a small group of people working together. Some have degrees in music, some have long and varied experience, and some have never played in a band before. One band member had not played a horn for forty years. The band gets together to have fun, to make the best music it can, and to play for important gatherings like historical society picnics, retirement communities, church services, visits from Santa Claus, Gazebo Concerts and the Red Cedar Festival.

We thank you for the opportunity to be part of the Red Cedar Festival of Community Bands. We also thank all of you who support music in the community.
