The Southshore Concert Band was formed in 1992 and has served the
Southwest Michigan area ever since. The band's performance season
runs from September to June of each year. In 1999, the SCB began
its residency at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor. The band
currently has about 75 members and performs 8 to 10 times a year in
various locations. Major concerts are held at Christmas and in the
Spring on the Mendel Center Mainstage at Lake Michigan College.
Membership is open to any adult who plays a band instrument. The
philosophy of the band is to perform for the joy of music. The
Southshore Concert Band is funded in part by grants from The Berrien
Community Foundation, The Frederick S. Upton Foundation, and The
Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
