Roger Braun


Roger Braun has an extensive and varied background in the music field as a percussionist and music educator. Roger's performance experience demonstrates great diversity, and covers the idioms of classical, jazz, and world music. He has made several CD recordings and has been a featured performer with many well-known artists, including Rosemary Clooney, Bob Mintzer, Della Reese, Lyle Mays, and Billy Taylor. As a resident performer, he has worked in places as varied as Walt Disney World, the Tanglewood Music Center, and the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
Currently, Roger works as a freelance musician in the Lansing area. He is co-principal percussionist of the Lansing Symphony, and performs frequently with many other symphonies in Michigan. He is also a founding member of Biakuye, an African music and dance ensemble. As a teacher at the Eastman School of Music, Albion College, the Interlochen Center for the Arts, the Community Music School at Michigan State University, and was a tenured faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he taught from 1991-1997. Roger teaches percussion and music courses at the University of Michigan-Flint, various summer music camps, and is an active music clinician throughout the region. He earned his Bachelor degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Michigan and his Master degree in Performance from the Eastman School of Music.
